Homework for the Week of May 9 - 14, 2021 - due on Friday, May 14

Hello!

Teachers were asked to assign students homework for our weeks of online learning in addition to the tasks we will be completing during the day. You can photograph or scan your homework and email it to me by Friday, May 14. We will not have a spelling test this week because it will take too long to complete virtually during our literacy block, however, there will still be spelling tasks to complete. You may complete a spelling test on your own if you would like.

I will be posting updated information for our virtual learning this week in a few hours.

Spelling Tasks: We can recognize and spell words with re, dis, un, im, and in prefixes.

  1. Read your spelling word list and make sure you understand the meaning of each word.

  2. Complete 2 of the following activities. As a challenge, I would like you to try and choose two activities that are next to each other. Either one above and the other below, or one on the left and one on the right.

  3. Use all 12 of your spelling words, and write a sentence for each word. Put a circle around the spelling word in the sentence. Try to challenge yourself and see if you can use two words in one sentence.
Literacy Tasks: We can read silently with increasing confidence and accuracy. We can write an original story that is exciting and engaging for our audience.
  1. 20 minutes of reading is expected to be completed every night.

  2. I would like you to finalize the story we have been working on in class for the last several weeks (for most of you this story should be in your writing notebook if you did not bring the book with this in it home, do not worry about this task). Create an exciting ending that does not just abruptly stop the story but leaves the reader happy. Also, go through and check for triple scoop words and other details.

Math Tasks: We can use our knowledge of the relationship between standard time units to solve problems.
  1. Choose 2 of the following word problems to solve. Tom has been playing soccer every day after school for the past 1 week and 7 days. How many days has he been playing soccer together? Anna loves to read. She read one book every week for 14 days. How many books does she read? Abbey is so excited about her birthday. Her birthday is on March 18th, it is currently March 11th. How many days until her birthday?
  2. Write your own word problem using time and solve it.
Please let me know if you have any questions, I will see everyone virtually!
