Homework for the Week of May 23 - 28, 2021 - due on Friday, May 28

Hello!

This week is only a 4 day week, again, with a holiday on Monday. Homework will be due in class on Friday. We will also have our spelling test on Friday as well. Please remember to bring all of your supplies back to school on Tuesday. I cannot wait to see everyone! 

Spelling Tasks: We can recognize and spell compound words. 

1. Read your spelling word list and make sure you understand the meaning of each word.  
   
   
2. Complete 2 of the following activities. As a challenge, I would like you to try and choose two activities that are next to each other. Either one above and the other below, or one on the left and one on the right. 
   
   
   
   
   
   
3. Use all 12 of your spelling words, and write a sentence for each word. Put a circle around the spelling word in the sentence. Try to challenge yourself and see if you can use two words in one sentence. 

Literacy Tasks: We can read silently with increasing confidence and accuracy. 

1. 20 minutes of reading is expected to be completed every night. 

Math Tasks: We can use our knowledge of multiplication and division to solve math problems involving these operations.  We can describe numbers based on their characteristics. 

1. Find 3 different numbers around your house (maybe in your kitchen pantry). Write 3 sentences about each number, describing it. Some ideas you could use: what digits make up your number? How many digits does it have? Is it greater than something? Is it less than something? Is it even? Is it odd?
2. Write two of your own word problems. One using multiplication, one using division. Solve them using a picture, word sentence and number sentence.

Learning Tasks for Thursday, May 20

This is our last day for our online learning tasks. I can hardly wait to see everyone in class on Tuesday! Remember that there are no classes tomorrow as it is a Professional Development Day, and Monday is a holiday. Stay safe this weekend friends!

Please remember to bring all of your notebooks and pencil cases with you to school on Tuesday!

Literacy

1. Create a word collage about yourself. Use Word Hippo to help you come up with unique words to add to your artwork. Try and fill up as much of the page as you can. 1. Create your own guess a number using clues about your number. You can include things such as:
   
   -Number of digits
   -Even/odd
   -Greater than....
   -Less than.....
   -It has a ___ in it
   
   Please include 4 -5 clues and make sure your number is less than 1000.

Reminder: Tomorrow is pyjama day or crazy hair day if you would like to participate!

Literacy. 

1. Today in class we discussed how triple scoop words can make our writing more exciting. We also learned how to use Word Hippo to help us find triple scoop words. Copy the following sentences into your notebook and make them more exciting using triple scoop words that you found on Word Hippo. An example has been done for you. 
   
   Example: My friend is acting mean.  -------> My friend is acting selfish because they had a bad day.
   

   I saw a really big tower.

 Literacy

1. In class, we talked about events. Events are things that happen, for example: falling off of your bike. We also brainstormed a list of questions that you could answer about an event. We are now going to turn the questions that we answered yesterday into a paragraph. The example we completed in class is below.

2. Last week on Thursday, we discussed summarizing. Summarizing is when you talk about the main events or the most important things that happen in a story or a section of text. Summarize the reading below in your writing notebook.

   1. How are multiplication and division different? How are they the same? Try and come up with one thing that could answer each question and write that down in your math notebook. Try and think back to the conversation we had during our virtual meeting.

 Literacy

1. In class, we talked about events. Events are things that happen, for example: falling off of your bike. We also brainstormed a list of questions that you could answer about an event. Choose your own event and answer the following questions about it, do not write a story. If you are having trouble coming up with your own event to write about, write about a child accidentally dropping their ice cream cone on the ground. What is your event? How is the person in the event feeling? What did the person see? What did they hear? What did they taste? What did they touch? What did they smell?

2. On Monday last week, we looked at questions and coming up with good questions to ask. Read the following passage and answer the questions below. Online Learning for May 17 - 20

 Hello Everyone! 

Virtual learning week 2 is here. This week is only 4 days long, as there is a Professional Development Day on Friday. You can find the detailed plan for the week if you click here. Below is a picture snapshot of the weekly plan. 

Things will be very similar to last week, where after every lesson, I will be adding anything the students might need to the blog. There will be a separate post for every day of the week.

Homework for May 16 - 20, 2021 - due on Thursday, May 20, 2021

Hello!

This week is only a 4 day week, with a Professional Development Day on Friday. Thus, our homework will be due on Thursday. You can photograph or scan your homework and email it to me by the end of the day on Thursday, May 20. I have had very few homework submissions from last week. If you are unable to photograph it and email it to me you need to contact me and make other arrangements, please. 

We will not have a spelling test this week, however, there will still be spelling tasks to complete. You may complete a spelling test on your own if you would like.

1. Read your spelling word list and make sure you understand the meaning of each word.

Math Tasks: We can use our knowledge of addition and subtraction to solve math problems involving these operations.  

1. The following page has mixed addition and subtraction problems to solve. Solve all of them. Copy the question and answer into your homework notebook.

   

   
   
2. Write two of your own word problems. One using addition and one using subtraction. Solve your word problems using a word sentence, pictures and number sentence.
