Homework for the Week of October 25th - 29th - DUE ON Thursday, October 29th.

  Hello Everybody!

This week our homework is going to be due on Thursday, October 29th. Your students will get their homework folder and book back on Monday. If they want to work on their homework ahead of time, please just glue or staple the pages with their work into their homework notebook. 

I would also like to send out another reminder to the grownups that the students will begin to use their headphones in class more often, so if you are able to send them to school with a pair of over the ear headphones over the next few weeks that would be lovely. 

Thursday, October 29th will also be the day of our next spelling test. The words can be found below:

Spelling Tasks: I can recognize and spell words with short a and e patterns. 

1. Read your spelling word list and make sure you understand the meaning of each word.
   
   
2. Write each word using Witch Writing. You can draw the witch's hats if you would like but you do not have to. (This is the same as waterfall writing, I just gave it another name)
   
   

   

   
   

   
   
3. Choose 8 of your spelling words, and write a sentence for each word. Put a circle around the spelling word in the sentence. Try to challenge yourself and see if you can use two words in one sentence. 

Reading Task: I can read silently with increasing confidence and accuracy.

2. You may explore Epic at home if you would like. Please see the instructions on the Resource page which can be accessed on the right menu of my blog. 

Math Tasks: I can compare and order numbers to 1000, and I can represent and describe numbers to 1000, concretely, pictorially and symbolically.

   How many different 3 digit numbers can I make with those 3 numbers? Show me what they are. 
   
   Put the three numbers you made in order from largest to smallest. 
   
   Put the three numbers in order from smallest to largest. 
   
   If you would like a challenge, try to see how many numbers you can make if you are allowed to make two-digit and one-digit numbers as well. Once you have made these numbers, put all of your three-digit, two-digit, and one-digit numbers in order from largest to smallest, and then in order from smallest to largest. 
   
   
2. Using your knowledge of inequalities (alligator mouths) compare the following numbers. You will need to put one of the following symbols in the box for each question < , > , = . 
   
   
   
   
   
   
3. Continue to work on Mathletics. I highly encourage the students to log in to Mathletics and attempt some of the activities, to practice and reinforce some of the concepts that we have learned in class. 

Music Task:

1. Please continue to practice O Canada in sign language. I have inserted a video below to help. We will be "performing" on November 2nd. 
   
   
   
   

Optional Art Task:

1. If your student would like to participate in the art contest for the Minister of Health, please have them create a winter scene art piece on a half piece of paper (half of a regular 8.5 x 11 piece of paper) and submit it to me by Thursday, October 29th. For more details, please see the email that Mrs. Taylor sent home on Friday, October 16th.

Grown Up Information Update October 14, 2020

 Hello Everybody,

Over the next few weeks, weather dependant, we are going to be experimenting with both indoor and outdoor physical education classes. Please make sure that your student has 3 pairs of shoes every day, their indoor shoes (everybody already has this), their outdoor shoes (unless they come to school barefoot they should already have this), and a pair of gym shoes, incase gym is inside. 

Mrs. Taylor also sent out an email this afternoon with the following information: 

As promised, PE is going to be outside as much as possible this fall with appropriate temperatures (-5 or warmer), even in the snow.  That being said, there were many students not dressed for the snowy weather this morning.  Please ensure that your children come with the appropriate outerwear to be outside for 30 minutes to enjoy some PE time.  This may include a winter jacket, snow pants, boots, gloves/mittens, and a hat.  Please be sure to label all belongings.  We want our students to continue to be safe both inside and outside through the next months.

This week our homework is going to be due on Thursday, October 8, because Friday, October 9 is a Professional Development (PD) day for the teachers, so there is no school for the students. This will also be the day of our third spelling test. The words can be found below:

Grown Up Information Update - Sent on September 29, 2020

 Hello Team!

Last night, Andrea Taylor our school principal sent home an email to all student's grown-ups in our contact system. I am reposting the email here for your reference. 

Dear Parents,

Please take a moment to read the attached letter for details regarding a positive covid case that has occured at Le Roi Daniels.  Please be aware that students and staff who are directly impacted have already been contacted.  

We are continuing to operate the school in a normal fashion moving forward and appreciate your understanding and support through this situation.

As we venture into another level of Covid, I want to ask that you please continue to practice confidentialtiy and professionalism with each other, our staff and your children.  We are thankful for your continued communication regarding ill students, covid results and absences.   In the event that your child should test POSITIVE, please only contact myself  - Andrea Taylor  or Nicole Hoye with those results as we want to maintain the highest level of confidenitality.  Your child's privacy is our priority.

Homework for the Week of September 27th, 2020 - due on Friday, October 2nd, 2020

 Happy Sunday Everybody! 

I would like to let everybody know that school pictures will be taken on Monday, September 28. Please wear formal uniforms for this occasion. This week it is Orange Shirt Day, on Wednesday, September 30. Students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt for this day with their navy pants/shorts/skirt or under their tartan dress.  It is NOT a casual day but rather just an opportunity to wear orange with our uniform.

This week our homework is going to be due on Friday, October 2. This will also be the day of our second spelling test. The words can be found below:

Spelling Tasks:

1. Read your spelling word list and make sure you understand the meaning of each word.
   
   
2. Write out each of your words once using a pencil, once using a pencil crayon, and once using a marker. Each word should be written 3 times altogether. 
   
   
3. Choose 8 of your spelling words, and write a sentence for each word. Put a circle around the spelling word in the sentence. 

Reading Task:

10 minutes of reading is expected to be completed every night. 

Math Tasks: 

1. On Monday (tomorrow), I will be giving your students their Mathletics login usernames and passwords. For math homework, I would like them to familiarize themselves with Mathletics and complete some of the activities that I have assigned to them. 
   
   
2. I would like the students to write 3 of their own increasing patterns into their notebook, and I would like them to write a sentence that explains the rule. 
   
   For example, if my pattern is

   Then the sentence that I would write for my rule would say: You add one X to the pattern in every step. 

         They have completed a similar task in class so they should know what to do. 

Science Tasks (Optional):

1. Last week we had been working on creating animal "trading cards" to help us learn what groups to classify different living things into. Students may be bringing home their trading cards to complete this week. For this, they will need to finish up the pictures on the back of their cards. The pictures are expected to be fully coloured to the best of their ability. These can be turned in, whenever they are completed in the Ziploc baggie that they were sent home in.
